The basis of the story is a scientist named Bruce Banner, who is accidentally exposed to a test detonation of the gamma bomb which he created. After this exposure, the withdrawn and unexpressive Bruce Banner began to involuntarily transform into the Hulk when emotionally aggrivated. The Hulk is the side of his psyche that he keeps hidden with his shyness and awkwardness, but when those emotions spill over he transforms into the Hulk and loses control.

Bruce Banner is often on the run from the police or military because of the trail of destruction he leaves behind him.
